Hypnotherapy promotes a very relaxed state that allows direct communication with the sub-conscious mind where all our habits, beliefs and patterns are stored. The sub-conscious mind is given the opportunity to accept new ideas that would normally be rejected by the conscious critical mind.
A person receiving hypnotherapy is always in complete control and aware of everything taking place. It is not mind control- but a co-operative approach between the client and the therapist to achieve goals. The client can stop the therapy at any stage by simply opening their eyes, and will always be treated with the upmost respect.
There are two entirely different treatments using hypnosis:
Suggestion Therapy – Used for problems such as smoking, nail-biting, pre-test nerves, study help, sports performance etc. or to control psychological problems.
Hypno-Analysis – Used to discover causes of psychological problems. Hypno-Analysis can be summarised briefly as the doctrine of the “cause and effect” – every effect (the symptom) must have a cause. Hypno-Analysis reveals and thus removes the cause and consequently removes the symptom.
Emotional problems respond particularly well to Hypno-Analysis. The objective of Analysis is to bring you to a moment of surprising and liberating enlightenment and one can be fairly confident that a release will be obtained usually within six to eight sessions of Analysis. With these cases we are talking about a complete and lasting release, by finding and removing the originating cause, as opposed to control of symptoms by suggestion.
How many sessions of hypnotherapy?
Simple problems such as nail biting, smoking and blushing can usually be treated between one to three sessions. Each session normally lasts for around an hour. More complicated problems, for example long term severe anxiety may require a course of 3-6 sessions.
Examples of conditions that can be treated:
- Anxiety
- Bruxism (grinding teeth)
- Blushing
- Childbirth (hypnobirthing)
- Confidence, motivation, Ego Strengthening
- Depression
- Eating disorders
- Exam nerves
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Insomnia
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- Pain management
- Panic Attacks
- Phobia (spiders wasps, flying, etc)
- Sexual Issues
- Smoking Cessation
- Stress and Anxiety Reduction
- Weight Loss

Hypnotherapy can generally help to find those solutions to the problems that you’re finding difficult to overcome on your own.
