Colonic Hydrotherapy

What is Colonic Hyrdrotherapy?

Colonic hydrotherapy (also known as Colonic Irrigation) is an internal bath of warm filtered water. It helps cleanse the colon of accumulated faecal matter, mucoid deposits, gas and toxins. Such techniques were first recorded in 1500BC and have been used in traditional and naturopathic medicine since that time.

Why is it beneficial?

The colon is a very important organ for maintaining general good health.
Modern day diet and our fast lifestyle have led to few of us having ‘a healthy bowel’. The result of this can lead to bowel movement being slowed down and overgrowth of bad bacteria and yeast (e.g. Candida) in the colon, which leads to re-absorption of soluble wastes, toxins and parasites into the blood stream.

The Colon

The colon or bowel is an important part of the digestive system. It is approximately 1.5 meters in length and about 5cms in diameter. In health, it is populated by billions of friendly bacteria which assist in detoxifying waste, synthesizing certain vitamins and help us guard against infection. These bacteria make up to 70% of the dry weight of faecal matter. Stress, sugar, coffee, acid forming foods (processed foods and ones high in sugar), alcohol, heavy metals ( lead, mercury, aluminum ) and many other factors lead to the proliferation of unfriendly bacteria, Candida albicans being one of them. Once the balance of bacteria changes from friendly to unfriendly, the colon starts to experience problems.

What is involved?

Conducted by a trained practitioner, filtered water at a carefully regulated temperature is introduced into the rectum. With special massage techniques, the water begins to soften any deposits and cleanse the colon of faecal matter which is piped away with the waste water. The whole process takes about 40 minutes. The modesty of the patients is preserved to the utmost during the process. It is not painful but some people experience a little discomfort on occasions.

Who will administer my colonic?

All our trained practitioners are registered colonic hydrotherapists or female nurses. They have been trained to administer colonics and give advice on diet, lifestyle and food intolerances.

Is it safe?

Yes. Equipment is sterilized using hospital approved sterilization solutions which kill all prevalent bacteria, viruses and fungi in minutes. Countless thousands of colonics have been given safely, the water pressure is very low, so there is no danger of bowel perforations, and the water used is pre-filtered. Unlike regular use of laxatives, colonic hydrotherapy is non habit-forming, and improves colon muscle tone.
